The goal of this thesis is to do research , as wide as possible, in the most popular part of hobby named reenacting or reenacting (Napoleonic era, Austro-Prussian Wars, American Civil War, Second World War and some new topic - Czechoslovak Peoples Army, Royal Air Force and Czechoslovak Policemen before WW2). Thats mean commemoration and re-enactment of military history and military units in whole its history from time before 1989 to the future. The Old South Memory: Remnants of the Civil War through the perspective of American reenactors
Volfová, Anna ; Pondělíček, Jiří (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the role of the American Civil War memory in the American society today. It examines this phenomenon through the perception of American Civil War reenactors. The thesis analyses their opinions on the current issues that are linked to the history of this conflict - the omnipresence of the Confederate monuments and the Confederate battle flag in the American public space. It also explores the subject of the Southern identity, the role of the Confederacy in its formation and whether the ideas of the Confederacy are still present in the South today. It is necessary to understand the Southern mentality and how it is perceived by the rest of the United States, because the individual characteristics of the Southern identity are reflected in the current debates on the Confederate heritage. An idea that interconnects the individual chapters of the thesis is that the American Civil War memory is strongly influenced by the Lost Cause ideology and the overall mythologization of the conflict. While the Civil War reenactors' main motivation is to educate society about the conflict, their opinions are also mostly supportive of the romantic perception of the Confederacy.
Atlanta during the American Civil War
Beňačková, Miroslava ; Koura, Jan (advisor) ; Drábik, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis will be an analysis of the political, economic and social life in the city of Atlanta, Georgia during the American Civil War. The goal will not be only to emphasise its key position in the Confederacy through the analysis of pro-confederate actions of its inhabitans, but also through showing the everyday life and opinions on the events of various social groups (plantation aristocracy, middle class, children, slaves). Great attention will be paid to the Battle of Atlanta of 22nd July 1864 and the following siege and surrender of the city. Local newspapers and its role during the war years will be analysed as well. As the conclusion, I try to prove or deny the hypothesis, that the American Civil War helped to develop the city further, because Atlanta would not grow so rapidly without the war events. Key words: American Civil War, Atlanta, Georgia, Confederacy, Union, Atlanta Campaign

The Reconstruction Amendments and their Relevance to Economic and Social Issues Faced by the United States from the 19th Century Onwards
Dudíková, Oldřiška ; Robbins, David Lee (advisor) ; Veselá, Pavla (referee)
This thesis examines a period in the history of the United States between 1865 and 1877 known as Reconstruction. It develops around the major pieces of legislation that were enacted over the course of its duration, and which incorporated for the first time into the American Constitution civil rights related to the country's black population of (in the examined period already former) slaves. The Reconstruction Amendments, as Amendments Thirteen, Fourteen, and Fifteen to the U.S. Constitution came to be known, had several functions: one of them was to define the status of freed blacks in the post-war country, and they were also to serve as a means of restoring political and economic stability in the South devastated by the Civil War. The first part of the thesis looks at the so-called Presidential Reconstruction, which lasted until 1866 and was characterised by rather 'mild' provisions in the South on the part of the U.S. government. Lack of national intervention on the level of individual states, insufficient financial funds and President Johnson's sympathy toward the class of white Southern planters prevented a more radical development in the post-war South. Although Presidential Reconstruction saw some considerable achievements, such as the setting up of schools, health facilities and churches to...
Economic and Political Effects of the American Civil War
Vrzal, Tomáš ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to show, whether main changes introduced to American economy due to Civil War in 1861 to 1865 had or had not positive effect on post-bellum economic development. were following antebellum development, or whether they go against it. To reach this objective, ante-bellum development of policies, which were changed the most during or after the war, is outlined; main political and social changes are introduced; application of the American system and its effects, mostly of protectionism and national banking system, are presented; and changes in size and role of federal government and effects of war on economy, mainly in the South, are analysed. I draw a conclusion from this evidence, that emancipation did not lead to immediate economic development in South, but rather due to other reasons. Also, I find that neither policy of protective tariffs, nor changes to the banking system had any positive effect on American economic growth in the last third of 19th century, and that their contribution was probably negative. Therefore, it can be stated, that American system, brought by the war, was not the cause of country's economic success.
